It sounds frightening, but unfortunately, this is the reality we live in today.
This time, the drone attack was only a training scenario developed by the SafeWay Training Centre and carried out by the LASKA FUND team. However, a similar situation could happen in real life. That is why it is important for our staff to know how to respond in such situations — not only to reach those who need assistance, but, quite simply, to protect their own lives.
An experienced trainer explained the different types of drones and the threats they may pose, showed participants how to identify UAVs in time, and explained which actions are safe and which should be avoided to minimise risks.
We learned how to use drone detection equipment and experienced firsthand what it feels like to see our own image on the “Chuika” system’s screen as our team’s vehicle enters the field of view of an enemy drone. It was an unsettling, even frightening, experience, but it was precisely this hands-on exercise that helped us develop a clear response protocol for a real-life threat.
The team reinforced the knowledge gained during the practical part of the training. When we spotted a drone flying towards the Fund’s vehicles, we quickly relayed the information to our colleagues via radio and immediately evacuated the vehicles, moving as far away from them as possible while making sure to help one another.
We sincerely hope that we will never find ourselves in the sights of enemy UAVs in a real-life situation. However, the knowledge and skills gained during the training have given us a clear understanding of how to respond should the threat become real.
